why do you sound surprised ? everyone had the same opportunity to buy it blind
the ones that didn't and waited until they seen it, played it, now want it are expecting to pay what ?

Pinheads are fairly up to speed on what they see as blatant profiteering and will simply take steps to find a workaround to avoid them (as evidenced by the importing a NIB Stern pin thread.)

add 800 for flying it in , over 1k in GST plus 5% duty on top , that tron will cost 13k - 14k min landed - no cheap fix
pick any hard to get pin these days - be it from the US or AU and the cost is up there

a month after acdc was sold out I did offer one for cost on the other forum - with no takers , unfortunately that's life we all have to eat
