Re: Just Cars Geelong Revival (was Geelong Speed Trials)

Great weekend at the Geelong Revival.

I did finish last in my class (!) but with historics, there are all sorts of engine capacities within the classes (which are year based), so I did have the smallest capacity in my class (Group M - racing, sports racing and clubman sports cars with a competition history established between 1st January 1961 and 31st December 1965).

Heck of a fun day, and really good public turn out for the event which has been in hiatus for the last 8 years.

During my practice run, the engine started breaking down - really annoying as it was perfect leading up to the day. Turned out one spark plug had died - and no spares! Lots of helpful competitors around, but nothing that suited my engine. Mate's mrs was on her way, so stopped at Repco (I had called ahead and sourced the last four plus they had that would suit my car). A very qualified mechanic mate of another mate of mine who was competing was on hand waiting, but they just arrived as my class was let onto the track. I cleared with an official that if I could catch the tail end, I could run.

My mate had to run the length of the track and some more, I suited up, the plugs went in and I felt like I was in an F1 pit stop!! Started it up, got a tap on the head from the mechanic with a "Yep - you got four cylinders now!" and I caught the filed with about twenty seconds in hand! A little stressful at the time, but makes a good war story.

A few pics below -

1. Leaving the pits for the start line with my mate's daughter aboard for a ride;
2. Getting ready for the run;
3. On track, first run;
4. Making my way back after the run.
