Yep, it is definitely the artificial knocker which can be turned off.  I am pretty sure I did have it turned off and with the updated software it would have defaulted to being on again.  Personally I would turn it off and leave it off, it is crap and sounds like something has broken.  As mentioned above, it is easily turned off.
