Unfortunately, this is a regular occurrence. The highest bidder can retract their bid before the auction ended. I've had this happen a few times, and the bidders know what they are doing, as there "reason" in their retraction email is always something like "Entered wrong value" - Yet their bid may be days old.

I don't list anything at this time of year as people have spent their money on holidays
