Not really a strange question i don't think Daniel, i've wondered the same thing myself  sorry i dont have an answer to the question of if any games used ALL of the driver transistors.

The test bench sounds like an interesting little project, its been something i've thought of in the past and is on my 'to do one day' list as well
would be pretty simple to design i would think
