Doesnt seem to be a common denominator, happens randomly througout the game. If its the player unit what shall I do to try and fix . Cheers.

Try this as a start ;

Remove the head door, and observe the "player unit" (I might be thinking Williams EMs here - But I think that is what it is called) - Have someone play the game and watch the player unit. When the problem happens - you should see the unit advance indipendant of the coil that SHOULD move the unit (once per ball).

Now you need to tell me if the unit NORMALLY moves clockwise one step, per ball, per player (hard to describe). When the problem occurs, does the unit move in the clockwise or anti - clockwise direction ?

Does it happen on a particular ball ?

Play just ONE player for the test.

If it is the player unit - we can further isolate.
