I've done 2 now, and agree, prepping is the key. For my next, if I do anther, I'd paint the edges of the cap an appropriate colour prior to sticking on the decals. Trimming is actually quite tricky if you don't. That way you can trim short of the corners/ edges without exposed wood. Very sharp knife and metal ruler needed for clean trimming. It's very satisfying in the end though.
