Goodness me - what a huge undertaking! I feel your pain with the chequers, often work like this becomes an act of self discipline rather than enjoyment.
The results though speak for themselves and it truly is better than new.
One question though as it wasn't documented... what did you use to recreate the cabinet artwork?
