Ive fixed a few inserts Kev just warm it up with a hairdryer and gently knock em out or down which ever the case is once its level just super glue it in place. I was the same to scared to have a go but i did it on a spare playfield no worries
That's about right !
Make sure you have a block of wood on the playfield covering the sunken insert, so when you tap it up, it sits flush and does not fall out. I find that using a socket just smaller than the insert works well. Use a hair dryer, and do not apply direct heat for too long.
