UPDATE:
I had to repair a steel rail on the right side of the 'no way out' entrance, as when the previous owner did the dodgy repair he snaped the foot off so he could insert a star post 
I found a small piece of stainless steel and cut and filed into correct shape then TIG welded into position.  Good as new
