removed board today,found out the black square thingys are in fact vertical bridge rectifiers.never seen theese before.so,they probally would get a bit hot.still none the wiser on why after a few minutes of power on the water apears to run up hill??? ^&^

Yes, you would expect bridge rectifiers to get a bit warm.

To me the problem sounds like the clock signal is out, but the clock signal is not generated on the chase lamp board. It is generated on the power driver board.
