I used the thinner contact for the 1,2,3 targets on my Fathom. When I insalled new targets about 10 years ago I covered them with contact from day 1.
The contact is still adhering perfectly now and those targets cop a hammering sideways too. I cut sections for the targets from a sheet of the thinner contact that operaters used to use to cover whole playfields, this seems just right, not too thick like the regular mylar. I don`t know if the cheap book covering type contact is any good for this application.
