Most houses built in the past 15 years have a safety switch, I think it is mandatory for new houses. Switching off games at the power point is a great idea - I always do that on pins I have not fully tested.
I think any new circuit added to an domestic installation has to run through a RCD, I believe it's a condition of the certificate of electrical safety? (The purple form the sparky gives you)
When I got a split system installed - it had to go on a new RCD as I ran out of amperage on the other 2...
A kiwi sparky mate of mine was surprised they are 30ma trip over here - he something about them being 10ma in Un Zud?
My RTC don't work - so no attract mode and no GI power save! The GI connector has already been cooked and upgraded to arc-welding cable by the previous owner/operator. So it never gets left on!
