I did try cleaning the switches and it didn"t seem to help much. Is there anything else i can do? If a solenoid is bad does it still work?

A simple test would be to actuate the switches by pressing on the bumper skirt. Sometimes the bumpers are more powerful when pressed on a certain side of the bumper. This would mean the bracket holding the bumper spoon switch is out of adjustment.

You may need to adjust the switch under the playfield.
