Yep, Great idea.
Storing IC's in antistatic foam ( Velostat) is an absolute must to avoid static damage.
And using an antistatic wrist strap when handling in between is also a good idea.

I store mine in velostat only, but using the parts cases is actually better because it avoids them getting crushed when stuff gets stacked on top.
