I do a fair bit of work with Enterprise Search Engines & Location Based Search systems (Geospatial) but these are dull compared to the interesting search engines coming out.
Have a look at this cool search engine (in Beta)
http://tineye.com/ where you submit an image either by uploading from your HD or entering a URL. It will return results that are based on your submitted image. Sort of a 'find similar' search but more strict.
