Gtb Solar Ride what's it like and what are they worth?
« on: April 15, 2013, 10:02:21 PM »
I'm not looking to buy either of these but I do like the look of this machine, thus the question. Other thing is, do these come up very oftern? I haven't noticed one on ebay before but I havent really been looking out for one either. Ones a project and the others painted the wrong colour.

My uncle had one of these at his holiday house in Talbingo and I went up there a few times as a kid and always loved playing it (a pinball machine in a house that had nothing else that would interest a kid like me that loved anything electronic). Years later, he sold it to a guy who I worked for at the time and it didn't work for many years. I ran into my old boss the other day and asked him if he still had it. "Nah, mate. Sold it for $100 just to get rid of it. I would have given it to you if I had known you were into pinnies when I got rid of it." SHATTERED!

Ha ha, sometimes it's just better not to know isn't it.

haha it sure is. I'd been thinking in my head for the past few years "I must ask him when I see him if he wants to sell it. Would be good for nostalgia and could use my Hulk's boards to test it and get it going again."

Solar Ride is my first machine and personally I think it's great.
I never played I until I restored it and I ended up setting the back up a little higher and it plays real fast.
I still haven't got the drop target bonus for dropping the centre one last.
I have played a mates set at standard height and its a bit slow.
One thing I am looking to do is fit chimes to it.

I enjoyed mine. A very interesting game with the rules around the drop target. VERY hard to achieve, but a fun game. They are very common in Australia. Non working will most likely need a Pascal or Ni-Wumpf SYS1 board.

Price - $750 - $1300 for a reconditioned game.

I own a few of these Babies(1 fully restored) and 2 others ,1 full machine but RS backglass and the other just a populated playfield. Last one was a freebie with badly water damaged cab ( 1 leg fell off when loading on my ute %.%) But a fav of mine i used to hammer one a the local Pizza Bar, even had the owner worried because of the amount of free games i would sometimes get. Really nice artwork on the backglass Very simple rule set. I think that's why its so fun to play, easy (sometimes) to get a special. But beware of the gap between the double flippers on the left hand side..
