BACKGLASS STORAGE AND SEALING
« on: March 21, 2009, 07:06:47 PM »
Hey Guys
I sealing a few of my back glasses today some only had slight flaking in small spots is it best to just seal the damaged areas or do the whole glass?  Also is there a good way to store them?  Mine are just stacked up against each other?

Depends on where the peeling is and how bad.

Just make sure you cover the score windows.

I store mine with a piece of cardboard between them - or old beach towels.

Daniel,

What are you using to seal them?

With sealing a backglass with triple thick, I was wondering what the best way is to cover the score windows? if you cut out cardboard and lay on top of the windows with weights, does the overspray cover part of the cardboard resulting in adhering to the glass and the cardboard requiring some cutting around the edge to seperate? I was thinking of just regular strips of masking tape over the windows with maybe some trimming on the edges when removing?

Also on a glass with some de-lamination areas, but solid non flaking paint, does triple thick actually seep through the paint and re-adhere the paint back onto the glass?

Excellent questions - these have me wondering also.

I have a few glasses from the 1950s and 60s that need doing but I'm worried about making them worse

Use low tack 3M sticky tape - Be VERY careful on system 1/80 machines with the blue score windows - or you will lift that when you remove the tape.

Let the paint cover 1 mm of the window to "seal" the corner when the window meets the art.
