Do you play better when pissed
« on: March 22, 2009, 07:30:37 PM »
Just got home from watching my local league team trials and had quite a few sherbets headed for the garage for a few more and thought id give the pinnie a go .
Could do no wrong every ball was unbeatable.
may have to drink a bit more often?

Maybe after a couple of Jim Beams.

I don't like playing tanked because then my machines suddenly appear to be multiball all the time!

Actually, pinball taught me something about myself. I used to notice that when I gave up on a game (ie got to ball three with stuff all accomplished) I would have a terrific last ball.

One day a friend was over and having the worst game ever on AFM. He walked from it as he drained ball three - but the machine spat it back "Return to battle soldier!", but he was having nothing of it. So with nothing on the clock I played the game out, totally not caring, making jokes with him and my wife as I managed an extra ball for the second wave, then one for the video mode (still on that saved ball three), and eventually Ruled the Universe - all off a ball save on the last ball.

Also noticed I played better after a couple of bourbans - care factor zero.

Added it all up one day and realised when I relaxed I simply played better.

Been using that learning not just in playing pins  but lots of other stuff. I doubt I would ever have learned that lesson without the pins!

Yes, playing relaxed does help. If you put pressure on yourself it can definitely make you play worse.

Although I have noticed when playing head-to-head against my son that it does focus the mind if you are trailing on the last ball.

I definitely play better pissed until I sober up and see the shit scores I've left from the night before.

I'm sure I drive a car better pissed too, but think I'd be fooling myself!!!

I've high scored some games after quite a few sherbets - the risk is entering your initials! I have been known to curse the next day when I see that MJK is on top of NIK  @.@

I don't think I play any better or worse whether I am drunk or sober, I play like shit all the time. But I am much more relaxed when I have had a few ales so I don't concentrate as much on what I am aiming for and just like to have a bash and keep the ball on the playfield. Sometimes this pays off and I will have a cracker game, other times I don't even see the ball drain. Pretty much the same when I am sober, but it hurts more.
