PINBALL RATINGS? HOW DOES EVERYONE RATE
« on: March 21, 2009, 12:08:07 AM »
Hey Guys
Been wondering for a while how does everyone rate a pinball machine i get the 1 to 10 but is there a criteria for a rating or just personal preference.

For me  I rate each seperately

Body 1 to 10

Play field  1 to 10

Back glass 1 to 10

In my eyes a 10 is brand new condition?
A 9 is perfect without close inspection
An 8 is slight damage or wear that only a pin nut would notice and in original condition
A 7 would look good to most maybe some slight good repairs
A 6 would have fading scratches and general wear and tear
A 5 good project pin
A 4 Good first pin for Joe Blow
A 3 Coffee table or wall art
A 2 Spare parts only
A 1 id take out to be shot

Would just to know how others rate there pins?

You ratings are sensible, but you need to compare them to the special "Ebay Pinball Rating System", to wit -

10 is perfect without close inspection
9  good project pin
8  good project pin
7  good project pin

(Nothing below 7 is **ever** sold on Ebay)

Everybody rates differently.

How many times have you seen somebody describe something as 'mint' when in your eyes you rate it much lower?

MINT???  That means NEVER been played, not a whisper on the machine - no pinball can ever be mint unless still boxed....... as soon as you screw those leg bolts in or shoot a ball - she aint mint

we can have MINTY though.......LOL

Yea - "Mint" is a very loose term along with "shopped" = Hard to define.

Rating pins is a personal thing. Depends on WHY you are rating the pins. You have to take out the "emotional" aspect of the rating - Is it a game you have been after for 15 years ? "Rating" the pinball becomes a blurry line - "I just HAVE to own it" !

Like I said - everyone has a differnet rating system - Here's mine;

Backglass

No flaking, cracking or fade = 9/10
Minimal damage by one of the above = 8/10
More than minimal from one of the above, or two of the above = 7/10
Considerable damage from one of the above - 6/10
Considerable damage from two or more of the above - 5/10

Playfield

No wear and clearcoat or mylar intact = 9/10
Mylar lift, insert wear, decal wear - but repairable = 8/10
Any areas worn to wood = 7/10
Considerable wear, mylar lifting paint, clearcoat dull = 6/10
Multiple wear areas to wood = 5/10

Everything else on a pin is fixeable - so I don't really rate them - other than the body - but repaint or re decal can fix that !

Geez mate, looks like you'd rate most of your Mark.C. purchases from three down judging by the amount of tables you've made and the pile of corpses you have burried out the back of your shed!!    @.@
