HRP STTNG Black restoration...
« on: May 30, 2013, 11:49:51 PM »
I thought i would put up a very quick run through of one of the latest projects we have completed. This was a little trickier than the norm for us as the game started off as a 'playfield only' job...

Initially we were commissioned to restore the STTNG playfield, so i'll cover that first...

Playfield as received...

Documenting all of the issues with the playfield...

These inserts are a common problem on STTNG, they will be refinished during the process...

Getting into the initial stages...

Sanded as far as possible...

Cleaned...

Freshening up the timber tones...

Clearing some of the work...

Fast forward a little, playfield has received its final clears...

Finished playfield...

With the playfield complete, the client and I discussed the direction of the remainder of the project - and the finish that could be expected if we built the game down here. A style/finish was settled on and we began the task of picking up the STTNG build after teardown.

Parts and hardware coming into the shop...

The cabinet had its fair share of issues...

Generally pretty tired...

Getting things in order slowly. Even organising components into the racks was tough as it is such a MASSIVE game...

Cabinet was put into process first up...

Backbox...

Primed, ready for the final finish...

black applied, STTNG is on the right...

Playfield starting to be rebuilt...

Underside fastners installed...

Rebuilding all the mechs, usually this would be completed earlier but it was a little bit of juggling with this one...

pops (one to go)...

various other components...

This subway ramp is just CRAZY...i cant remember how long it took to rebuild and test this thing...

New ramp with cleaned and rebuild hardware...

Nothing neat here yet. Simple case of get it on first!!

Various other assemblies being rebuilt, a colorDMD was on the way and would be swapped out later...

Complete...

Moving onto the topside, ramps...

Game is starting to take some shape now...

Black trim and wireforms installed, i felt this really ties the space theme in well without blinging the game up too much...

Other than a few other details, that was the project complete. The real challenges being the project being picked up 30% through the restoration. Working off other peoples reference photos and getting it all together in a neat, presentable package.
Both myself and Stuart are really wrapped with the finish and playability of the game. The following are the shameless glamour shots with the game featured out in the daylight.

here we are...

Signed translite from Steve and Greg, nice compliment to the game...

A few of the game powered up in the shop...

Live long and prosper...

I'm a big fan of chrome, but I love the black finish on this pin. Amazing work.

Outstanding work Tim.  Was never a fan of this game (except Marco's one)  *)* but that looks outstanding.

Well done.
