Help/advice needed
« on: March 30, 2009, 03:47:12 PM »
Hi all-today I decided to replace my GORGAR batteries as it's been 9 months since last change. Replaced them with new ones and turned machine on, it came up with that 14.....number in player one so switched machine off a few times and nothing so I pressed the 2 buttons next to the batteries a few times(i know I probally shouldn't have) and finally alls good. I played 2 games and switched machine off then came back a couple of hrs later and machine started reseting checked fuses and one had blown..Theres a bank of 3 fuses right down the bottom RHS of backbox and the middle one blew(3amp) there sort of behind the blue cylinder thingy. Why would this happen???? Dam machine was fine until I changed the dam batteries.. After replacing fuse machine works fine-not sure for how long though.  !!! !!! !!! !!! !!!

The blue cylinder is your old battery, sounds like someone has replaced it with an external battery pack.  Get the old blue one off your PCB before it leaks acid everywhere

The blue thing is about 4inchs high and wired up-the board has a new battery holder on it which was put on about 12mths ago and I change batteries every 6-9months..

I think the big blue thing is a capacitor? Is it mounted to the bottom of the backbox? Or on the CPU ( circuit board up the top left)

Sounds very much like a large capacitor of that era.

Yep, big capacitors often die when not used (left in storage) for a while, especially if they've been under lots of stress when they were in use.
Very common prob for ALL equipment in general.

Pics will confirm.
