Where did you plug them into? the 12v near coin door or spare power outlet in Backbox?

They supplied a 12v adapter which pluged into the backbox.

Ok mine is to its a large square connector? Maybe the topper has a on/off switch on the rear of it?

The connector l used was a 15 pin one. There is no switches on the toppers.Could there be a loose wire?or should l plug it into the 12v under the playfield and see what it does.

Have you checked the fuses on the machine/s?  The ACDC topper could be faulty and may have blown the associated fuse, especially if it worked for a few seconds and then died.

Will l be able to tell the fuse has blown by just looking at it or not?

It's much easier with a multi meter cause it's hard to see a break by just looking.

+1.  The only way to check a fuse properly is doing a continuity test with a DMM.

If you have Stern machines, you should be able to check the fuses by looking at the re LEDs on the board in the backbox as well.  Just remove the translite and you will see if there are any LEDs not on (make sure the coin door is closed as well) and this should give you a pretty good idea if there are any dead fuses or not.
