WideBody Playfield Glass
« on: May 10, 2014, 02:50:45 PM »
Can somebody please measure a sheet of playfield glass from a WMS WideBody (SuperPin) machine?

Marco (and many other site) list them as 23-3/4" by 42" which translates to 603.2mm x 1067mm

However when got one made for me, it wasn't wide enough (falls into the playfield space rather than sitting in the side channels).

Looks like it'll need be ~614mm to actually fit as it should.

Could somebody please check this measurement for me? I'm trying to figure out where I made the mistake...

OK, what in the world have I done wrong?!? The sheet is "the right size" but the carcass does have a bit of flex in it (seems a few mm wider at the front than the back, although lockdown bar fits just fine).

I've got the side receiving channels and it BARELY hold the back. Interesting side note I noticed the rear receiving channel is only 58cm wide.

Guess I'll just need to get another one cut at 614mm.

Anybody in Melbourne want a sheet of toughened WideBody glass for $50?

I've attached some images to clearly show the problem.

I've double checked the cabinet dimensions, and they are indeed 630mm across using 18mm panels so I honestly have no idea why it's not fitting.

The panel I have is "standard" WMS Widebody (5mm thick, 603mm wide, 1092mm long).

Looking at that back photo it doesn't look like 603mm would fit in the first place, so I'll just leave here confused and go and order another sheet...

The other image...

EDIT: Just had a bit of a play, and it looks like it would fit IF I glue the side receiving rails so they are hard up against the inside edge. It may be as simple as having the route in *slightly* the wrong spot. Squeezing the "sides inwards" should solve the problem.

I'll hunt down some glue tomorrow and give it a shot. Any recommendations for attaching plastic to wood?

EDIT: It was indeed the receiving channels (side). I used some screws to "push" the rail as far across as it would go and now the glass fits. Just, but it does fit.

SO...if anybody else is after non-standard or just some "cheap" playfields, let me know. I need to order some more anyway, might as well tack on to the same order.
