Drop Target Issues
« on: September 03, 2014, 11:13:31 AM »
Guys
I have rebuilt the drop target assemnly with new targets on my Stern Galaxy - however i now have an issue where on the start of a new game, one or two targets drop without any reason.
This only occurs when a new game is started. Strange issue because it doesnt occur between balls or during multiplayer games, when the drop targets reset - all is fine.

Any ideas on what might be causing this issue - where to look etc??

Thanks

Are they always the same targets?
I know Trident drops some targets at the start of the game because it is part of the game sequence, once you drop the remaining ones all will reset and then others will drop for the next sequence.

yea its usually either the top or the bottom one (random) - however it's not part of the games sequence.

I wonder if its a spring tension issue?

Sometimes there are features that can be set through the DIP Switches - but this (Galaxy) problem is not one of them. You may need to remove the DT assembly and find out if it is a physical issue. I think if the assembly is mounted too close to the front section of the playfield hole, the DT will randomly drop as they cannot latch forward all the way. Move the assembly back so the faces of the targets in the "up" position are not touching the edge of the playfield gap.

Nino, I guess what you're saying is make sure there is sufficient room between the targets and the playfield so that the targets have enough room to properly seat up against the metal stops as per the image.

Exactly.

While you have the target assy on the table, tap it with a screwdriver to see if vibration is not knocking over a target. If this is all ok, mount the assy back in the game with sufficient room for the targets to raise without touching the edge of the playfield - exactly as you have described.

Turns out this is a common issue with the PBR stern drop targets, the solution is to file or grind down the coil stops about 2mm so that the coil plunger pulls in further, raising the targets further, and resetting properly.

Problem solved!
