Ever wondered what it takes to be an operator?

Not all pinball operators have guns pulled on them or hustle. But some do (or did). Meet Pinball Geoff, who's been an operator for 40 years....

Excellent read. A brand new Premium ACDC Stern paying for itself in way less than 2 years sounds like good coin to me , espescially when he was only taking half of the profits.
Who said operating machines today wasn't profitable ....

I have always felt hospitals should have a games room for sick kids etc. That could be a good money spinner if u had a friend high up in the government somewhere.....
Behind every garage door could be a pinball collectors

think pinnies might be too loud for a hospital. video games can be turned down to quite soft. can't dampen a pop bumper thud.
Still loving my Metallica Premium

Didn't know that. Haven't seen any in QLD although I had three operations last year. I will have to ask when I go back for my brain transplant. Lol.  Bill Gates has dementia so he needs a new brain . Lol
After he gets mine, his company will go great guns..... He will forget unwanted computers and just focus on pinball machines ofcourse..... Lol.   (Yes, a disaster donor. Lol)

A simple thick wooden door placed on the entry area/door to the games rooms should do the trick.
A dozen pinnies, some arcades games, a few lap dancers and a huge spa bath, what else should a hospital games room have......(masseurs....few movies.....a bar and Foxtel with a TAB....Who would ever want to leave.
Maybe titles like the Walking Dead shouldn't be allowed near the dementia ward or the kids wards etc. But a Stern games room in every hospital is a must. Lol

Great article. Considering I spent most of my childhood (and all my holidays), with my father (first operator in Australia), I've been lucky enough to see places crammed with machines and people lining up to play them. The late 70's was easily the most incredible time to be a kid. The call outs to "service" the KISS machines when they came out - only to find the coin boxes overflowing and jamming the coin acceptors. Some with Paragon, Space Invaders and later on - and rather strangely - GTB Street Fighter.

Although is sounds glamorous and easy, it was a 12 hours day, and it would have been one of the first occupations that required 24/7 support. You had to know Bingo machines, Juke Boxes, EMs, SS, Video games - and you had to troubleshoot and repair within minutes, or haul out the game and lose $. There were always games in "reserve", ready to go out if needed. It takes a devoted working class individual with knowledge of the industry and the drive and ability to work very hard and long hours. It was not always about unboxing games and clearing cash boxes. From my point of view, I feel very lucky that I was able to experience what I did, and happy that I can remember the good with the bad.
