a 2nd EM took me back
« on: June 03, 2009, 10:45:52 PM »
As a teen I enjoyed dads collection of 12-15 EMs in our shed. Luckiest kid around, and allways had mates over for "free" pinball.
They are great memories, but the best ones are of me and dad in the shed at night bashing away on our favorite games. Dad loved King Kool, and I could never beat his hi-scores on it. We often went head to head on Freedom, and I could often post better scores than him on it. Funny we used to write down the hi-scores, kinda a competition, but they had to be witnessed! or otherwise they didnt count (someone had to see you get it lol).

Anyway owning my second EM brought back the "sounds of my fond memories". Tonite my eldest son was playing Drop a Card, and I was on King Pin. What a memory flash back........it was amazing how hearing 2 EMs chime away, and click clack score reals hit me with a real sense of nostaglia. Dad isnt around anymore, but tonite in the shed with my son it was like me and dad back there all those years ago.

Greg - Great story - and everyone has one similar, and sometimes you need to hear, or see a machine to "unlock" those memories.

For me - the smell of an EM always brings back memories.

Mate, revel in those great memories of your father, and thanks for sharing that wonderful feeling with us.

Wow  #*#

What a post  ^^^

Real powerful stuff and I was just hanging on to every word.

Greg, you have really nailed it twice today. Firstly about old pinball machines being 'eye candy' - oh how I can totally relate to that.

Secondly the Father - Son connection.

Amen

Great stuff mate.. Often look at my own son playing the pins knowing that in years to come he'll be remembering it with affection - means nothing to him at the moment though.
Even at Expo i was on my stall and i think 3 times i heard a "THWACK THWACK THWACK" as someone beat the high score on an EM - remember smiling and thinking how those old girls still managed to shout above all the other machines.
Legendary stuff

Ditto. Great stuff.
Wanted: GTB Aquarius backglass. Any playfield bits and backglasses from any EMs - nothing is junk to me.
