I imported mine from Germany in 2007 as a project machine. It had a poor playfield, but everything else was presentable. It only cost me AUS$1500 - but by the time I landed in - it owed me $2800 - $2900. That was for a project machine. I have since bought a playfield and plastics. In the end - it will owe me around $5000 - but it will be one of the best in a collection - and will never be for sale.

They are virtually impossible to find in Australia "For Sale". Collectors simply do not part with them. I've seen one on Aussie eBay since the inception and it was worn to wood. The worst Fathom I've ever seen !

I have imported two more Fathoms - One is in very good condition and is shopped. It is not to my standards, so I'm going to do some more improvements to it and then it will be "on the market" . I would not part with it for less that around the $4200 mark (restored). The second is strictly a project.

I know collectors that paid in the "hundreds" for a Fathom 15 years ago. Those days are gone. I would expect a project to go for $2500 - $3000. Working machine $4000 +

If youre keen enquire about: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CLASSIC-BALLY-FATHOM-PROJECT-PINBALL-GAME-COMPLETE_W0QQitemZ310170725218QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_15?hash=item48379dab62&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Case in point - A project Fathom for $1800 - far worse than the project machine I bought in 2007 and $300 more expensive. Add around $1200 - $1300 to have it shipped and released - $3000 + for a machine that needs a new playfield and has a peeling backglass. An IDEAL restoration candidate if you have a repro playfield and backglass. CPR are not making another run of playfields, so you would have to either restore the current playfield or buy a less worn playfield once a swapover is completed.

I ended up "biting the bullet" as it is my "Holy Grail" pinball. But I had some "forward planning" as I knew CPR were remaking the playfield next.

Well there you go PF. What an honest community you have here. I'd also like this game, from looks anyways.

How does this one play anyhow? Kinda looks along the same lines as Centaur to me. Is it fun? Is it challenging?

I REALLY enjoy playing Fathom, and I don't get too engrossed in rules etc. It's not too difficult - but there are some GREAT skillshots. There are two "capture" holes - one at the very top RH corner, and one on the RHS half way up. The latter is easy - hit the ball into the capture hole and the three targets pop up. You now have to hit the next ball into the other capture hole - top RH corner - via the middle flipper. A VERY hard shot, but when played - it flies into the hole and the three drop targets pop up. A third ball is served and you now have to knock down the 6 targets protecting the two captured balls. Once completed - you have 3 ball multiball. This usually does not last long as you start the process again. There are other ways of building your bonus - but it is great fun - especially attempting to release the top captured ball - as each time you knock down a target, the ball drops back into general play.

I rate Fathom higher than Centaur. Fathom has a cool ruleset that you don't really need to follow - if you like target games - this is the ultimate !

Where are you mate?. If you are around the Central coast NSW you are welcome to come and have a bash. My Fathom copped a trashing last night from my mates who usually like D/M's and once I explained the "put the ball in the saucer for multiball lock" they soon warmed to the table that you could see the ball all the time and the awesome artwork on it. Love the game.
