Yep remember it, no christmas holidays just in case the air conditioning plant at one Sydney's newspapers didn't start up. Must have spent months leading up trying to get suppliers of electronic controls to issue Y2K compliance on replacement parts. f**k what a load of shit that was, most common answer to the request of will it fail or not was try it and see.

Being 19 I spent a lot of the year drunk. Was attending TAFE back in those days doing electronics trades (we used to spend lunch at the pub).

Didn't have expensive kids.

Didn't have even more expensive partner.

Didn't have even even more expensive home loan.

Could do reams of overtime to make even more money (no responsibility's)

Australia won THAT semi-final at the cricket world cup. (And started the Saffer's "choker" tag)

Rode a motorbike - drove a warmed fairlane that would get 130k's out of 80lt of fuel...  &&

We had this stuff called water... You could use it to clean things...

If someone asked me how old I was - I didn't have to say "29 plus GST"...

I remember jokeing with my mates about how people in certain countries bought bottled water and saying that will never happen here. plus on a hot day you could let the kids play under the water sprinkler and not worry about a water bill.

and that stupid GST, the statements that most items would cost less but some would cost more, yeah right.

Hehe. I worked in PET blow moulding back then - man, friggin water bottles - we (ACI) couldn't make 'em fast enough!

The ideas that came up... i.e. The RAAF were testing some custom bottles we made - they wanted to turf water bottles out of a Herky doing 300kts at 500ft... Didn't hear much more about that one...

Windows worked... No it didn't.

The M1/Monash/South-Eastern freeway didn't have roadworks... Yes it did.

Everything I enjoy wasn't illegal, immoral or fattening... Yes it was.

Someone wasn't trying to wipe each other off the planet... Yes they were.

Grog and ciggys weren't expensive... Yes they were.

This could be fun!  &&

This is the fourth time I have written a reply about Y2K but have not been able to post... so I will say this.......

It did happen, but due to some great programmers (some of which I actually know) most of the potential problems were prevented.

well that was the talk at the time, "it was all a big scam, all the money spent to prevent it was a waste"
if the money wasn't spent to prevent it then there would have been mayhem.

of course every thing was cheap then, Not
thats why we were all saying back in 2000 that back in 1990 we could buy this and that for next to nothing.
