Shrinking cabinet decals.
« on: April 08, 2010, 01:23:52 PM »
After seeing so many Funhouse restores lately i've finally been motivated into start my own Funhouse resto.  Took a couple of weekends off to strip, prepare, and repaint the cabinet ready for the decals only to find that the bloody things have started to shrink!! ^&^.
Has anyone else had this happen?  and if so is it possible to get them back to the correct size?

cheers,    qwertyuiop (scott)

Hey Scott,

Are you able to post pics of what has happened?

Also - are they the screen printed decals from IPB or elsewhere?  If they have been stored rolled up, the backing paper may have separated.

I have seen some (not FH) decals separate from the backing paper but was fine once installed.

Hi
Not good , I would love to see some pics and also some detail on where you got them from- I notice there are some for sale on eBay for $279 ( don't know if this is a good price or terrible??) are these the ones you bought - I wonder if Pinball Spare parts has any decals for cheaper than that if you needed a new set.
Cheers
Lets us know how you go and maybe some do's and dont's when putting on new decals would be great for anyone trying it in the future.

I have seen quite a few sets of decals in really cold weather look like they have shrunk.

The decal man i know, hits them with a heatgun prior to installing, then stretches decals slightly and then all is ok as he puts them on.

Usually a sign of really old New Old Stock decals.

I'll try to post some pics this weekend, in the meantime i might try to stretch them back into shape by putting a blanket over the back of the decals and running a warm iron across the blanket.   I bought the decals form a U.S supplier (not IPB) about 6 months ago, cost me about $300 aussie  dollars at the time.
