SeaWitch
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:23:21 PM »
OK Seawitch is here. It arrived strapped to a pallet with bubble wrap and then wrapped again in plastic. Very well packed! Unpacked it set it, it works fine plays great.
Payfield - Some wear around inserts and some ball swirl but that's about it, just needs a good clean up. Mostly covered in mylar or contact which i may remove but is un-noticable so i might just leave it. One broken plastic, the blonde babe on the left, but considering the speed of this machine i'm not surprised I might just put perspex under it, or may get repro plastics. Cab - is a bit faded and dirty and a bit stained too but i reckon will clean up beutifully.
Backglass - the dark blue has been touched up a fair bit with an airbrush or spraygun. A fair bit of cracking in the paint when you look from the back, BUT, from the front, looks pretty good! When the machine is turned off and no lights behind it, it looks great, my first impression was WOW, so i think it's passable until a repro comes along, if not i can live with it no prob.

As far as the dealer (for those who were following the Seawitch Ebay thread), he was OK. Did not stuff around, the thing works (I'll have a closer inspection inside though), it arrived promptly. So overall i would say not a bad experience.
One gripe, the pics on Ebay weren't the best, they made the broken plastic and touched up backglass un-noticeable, but, I'm happy I did not pay top $$$ for this and I can't believe i own a SeaWitch $#$.

Just a couple of quick crappy camera phone pics...

Yes, it was - in fact I bought one!  Not as good as a screen-print when lit up, but a very tidy piece of work (thanks John!).  I have used coloured globes behind the backglass with good effect.  Following is (hopefully) a lit and unlit shot of the backglass and a photo of the LH outlane area that you (Braddo) said in 'the other place' you were going to remove a post from, but I could not work out why.  Also note the sling plastic is a CPR (with the dark blues), while the bikini girl is original.

cheers
Ian

Ian the reason for me wanting to remove the outlane posts is because even though I've only had limited games on Seawitch so far (I can't get into any pin I own until it is cleaned), I just go for the hardest settings straight out, and the limited games i have played just favoured the inlanes a bit too much due to the posts. Maybe I'm used to Gorgar?? %.%
But, by removing these outlane posts i'm leaving the valuable plastics basically sitting in mid-air, and because the ball on this machine leaves the playfield A LOT I can see some damage to new and expensive plastics happening. I'll work it out.
It always takes me about a month of owning a machine to really appreciate it, but I can say straight out that after only 1 day and a handful of half-arsed games that this could possibly be the best pinball machine I have ever played (will be hard to beat RollerBall's BlackHole plus a number of others I have played) . Seawitch has a great ruleset for the year of production, I'm still a tad confused!! Time will tell.

Paul at least you know where the machine is and if I decide to pass it on I'll let you know ^^^. Come around for a game.
Mate knowing your reputation, if you did grab it you'd probably only have kept it for a couple of months anyway. %.%
And yeah a meet in the future could now be on the cards, even though one machine i own used to be yours, then again you could probably go to any meet in the country and play a pre-owned machine %.%.

A lot of games have more than 1 hole for the outlane posts to screw into.  Even if that post is moved to the left a mm or so, it'll make a difference.  Worth removing the post to have a look at least.
