Shipping Backglass
« on: August 12, 2010, 04:44:36 PM »
Guys,

I have purchased a backglass in the States and I am having it shipped to friends in Tennessee. Has anyone had experience shipping a backglass over here and more importantly, what did you use to do it to ensure it arrived in one piece? Marty suggested I ask the question as he thought a few members had already successfully shipped some backglasses.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jeff

Oh.. yes.. err.. Sorry !

Right - Have imported a few from North America and Canada.

It needs to be packed PROPERLY - either in a crate or in a custom cardboard box. I keep all my boxes in case some one needs it and it has served me well. I kept a custom made box from Classicplayfields in Canada. I've recieved 4-5 glasses without a single scratch - make sure that it is covered with "fragile" stickers and "this side up" stickers.

A few guys in the USA - Mayfair etc know EXACTLY how to do this - well worth the costs.

Use a reputable company - UPS are the best (from my experience)

Got your glass ready to go mate - How about the "chime" in joke - Nice one Gav  %.% %.%

I have used Mayfair who packed a new Gorgar backglass for me and as Nino said it's all in the packing.
I forget who transported it to Pinball resource (I think) where it was picked up by Mr Pinball for me and transported to my home in Hunter Valley.  Mark C was going to help me but could not do so in the end.

Mayfair know all about it give them a call.
No damage whatsoever but it took about 8 months from when I ordered it. It looks so good it makes it all worthwhile.

Mr Gorgar1 and Cruiserman from Cessnock have also had experience with importing backglasses.
Good luck

J.D.

...I used MyUS.com to get a glass from US to here. ... Even with some internal US postage, plus My US.com charges, it was still cheaper than with US postal service.

Try one of your car club as they normal have containers coming in, most time you can add stuff to their containers for a small fee.
