The "Glass Shot"

my 16 year old smartarse who has gone completly pinball nuts has perfected a move where he gets the ball on the flipper at an exact spot and shoots it hard making the ball bang on the glass before it goes back into the playfield, everytime he does this he yells "glass shot"...is there much chance of the glass breaking? I'd give the kid a thump but he's bigger than me.

I wouldnt worry to much the glass is very strong specially if its toughned if not it will be a good experience for him picking all the tiny crumbled up pieces of glass out of every where

Not sure which, but on of the pinball vids (the Shaggy ones) I recall has a bit where he hits the glass with a bloody hammer!! Seems to give it a decent whack too. Trick is, toughened glass is strong to hits to the face, but a light tap to the edge will shatter it. The ball hits are pretty same I suspect.

The glass is designed to take it - I have never heard of a pinball smashing a glass in all my years of playing.

Not that it couldn't happen but you would have to be very unlucky.

With out him knowing lift the flipper rubber up a smidgen , this should fix the problem .I suspect that the rubber may be sitting a little low on the bat .
I had a similar problem a while back .Give it ago .
See if he then gets air balls .

I've never seen a ball break a playfield glass or crack it. The glass is usually tempered glass which will shatter into a million little pieces. I've seen two playfield glasses shatter in Dad's hands. Either static, or the temperature change from cold to hot (his hands).

So if the ball "was" to break the glass, your son would be spending hours cleaning the fragments from the playfield.

As Ant pointed out - the rubber is too low on the flipper bat.

If he is that big at 16 - hit him now, before he gets any bigger!

+1 for the rubber being low. Was happening on my JP till someone mentioned this to me.

Glass did not break but sometimes i wondered.....
