Thanks for the advice marty,is jb weld available at bunnings? pretty sure i will be needing some,i'm thinking maybe fill the whole hole up with it and redrill the post after a few days give it time to set, just depends if it can be drilled, what do you think marty is it worth a try. ben

JB Weld is used to fill holes in engine blocks as well as many other applications.  It definitely can be sanded and drilled.  In this weather I'd allow 48 hrs for it to set properly.

Not sure if its available at Bunnings.  I bought my last lot on eBay.

It sets a dark grey colour, but I'm pretty sure you could paint it afterwards (ie a wood colour) and you would get it looking sweet.

thanks marty, looks like it's the right product for the job,the grey colour will actually look better as the x-files is quite dark anyway, plus i'm not to concerned about looks as i will be swapping the playfield out probably next year some time, would just like to get it playing till then, what does jb weld handle like is it like a nead-it type putty or is it a paste type application.

i swear i'm like a yoyo with these opto's get them working for a couple of games and then they all go to shit once more i think it has to be the post  ^&^ guess thats part of being a newb  %.%

Well in my dismay over this post i was studying the area looking at what could be done and i couldnt believe it,i spied the tip of another posthole sneakily being covered by the bodgy decal that had been placed over the magnet burn,so i punched through the decal and sure enough the post made a solid fit, after 10 games straight and no failures $#$ #*#,see pics for the difference it doesnt look pretty but at least it's working i have no idea why whoever installed the decal moved the posts,

and here is the way it was
