Moved my PZ across the garage... What a mess.
« on: September 19, 2010, 12:03:20 PM »
I needed to make some room for (soon to arrive I hope!) Pro Football.

My method for moving machines is a crackup - because I don't have a trolley.

I get my mechanics creeper, get on my hands and knees under the thing - push it off the ground with my back, so I can sit the creeper under the back legs... Then pick the front up by hand - and off she goes.

Well - after getting the thing in it's new home, turned it on to play a few games with Toni... (I didn't drop or jolt the machine either)

First - I lost the coin door lights, and a couple of controlled inserts halfway through a game. Diag switches died as well - couldn't get into test mode...

10mins of stuffing around - reseating plugs etc, got the controlled inserts working again. As for the coin door - the bloody earth wire had snapped off the plug on the coin door board. (And was still sitting nicely inside the molex plug - arsehole thing!)

Okay - fired it up - no upper backbox illumination... FFS! More stuffing around with the (hacked) GI plugs - after 30 minutes of swearing, got that working again.

Next game - kickout solenoid and 1 pop bumper not working - more playing with plugs fixed this one as well...

Played about 5 games - lost 2 columns of switches, wire had fallen off one of the leaf stacks under the playfield... (2 hours of tracing wires by hand to find that one) The other column had a faulty connection in the shitty IDC plug...

Now we are happy - thought I would refit the rocket (I painted it), and the flasher assy that goes in it... Of course I managed to rip one wire off the flasher board in the process...

Tech tip: If you strip wires with your teeth - do not do this with the power on, when you smash your head under the playfield - and it then falls on the back of your neck, it hurts... A lot...

Well - that was my Saturday, hope someone has a laugh!  ^^^

At least the garage is clean...

Lol Rob - yeah the POS worked for over a year without a single problem...  Should have moved the workbench instead... :lol

When the playfield dropped on my back - the 50v lugs dug into my neck, gave a new meaning to "pinball"...  ^%^

I remember as an apprentice at tech one of the guys had a habit of putting his pen in his mouth when he was thinking , anyway one day at tech he was fault finding a board with his multimeter and had one probe on the active and you guesed it placed the other probe in his mouth .
Lucky it was low voltage but he still screamed like a little girl.
