Coil Substitution
« on: September 21, 2010, 04:52:14 PM »
Say i needed a coil with numbers AE-24-900-03 but could not locate one, would it be possible to substitute it for a similar coil with numbers AE-24-900,or AE-24-900-01,Or AE-24-900-02 etc.
Just the last 2 digits are changes.Would this lead to problems??
Can you do this with other coils stamped the same but the last 2 numbers are not there or go up by ,01,02,03 etc.

Thanx in advance

Try and help you a bit if I can mate.
The first numbers are the wire guage  24 in your case
The second numbers are the number of turns of wire  900 in your case.

AFAIK the last couple of numbers relate to something like the type of lug on the coil.
Anyone can correct me on this.
But with my theory a 24-900 coil is a 24-900 coil and is interchangeable.

Hope that helps a bit.
Cheers,

try looking at the FL 11630  and the FL1 11630   all it is the lugs
i am sure I have 24-900 -3  but really use a 24-900

Another thing to keep in mind is that some coils have the field collapsing diodes mounted on the coil and some don't.  It is important to have the diodes on the coil if the original has them and just the same if the original does not have diodes you need to remove them.

I found this site really useful for anything to do with coils.
