Flipper 'bounce back'
« on: November 24, 2010, 10:00:39 PM »
On my Star Trek TNG, the right lower flipper does not seem very strong in the up position - what happens is when you go to catch a ball, the ball hits it, slightly lowers the flipper, then it re-energizes, bouncing the ball back up the playfield!!

At first i thought it might be a dud coil, but a new coil has the same problem.

In switch edges the EOS works fine when you manually move the flipper, as well as when pressing the button. the lower left and upper right flippers are both fine.

I'm wondering if its the transistors on the fliptronics board - or is this more a mechanical problem?

Really getting stumped with this one.

75V at each lug of the flipper in attract mode

50V at left (working) flipper lugs (blue wires) when button pressed
60V at right (dodgy) flipper lugs (blue wires) when button pressed

Swapped fliptronics board - no difference
Another new coil - no difference
Swapped and adjusted EOS - no difference

So to me it either has to be in the wiring somewhere (unlikely, due to voltage present), or is it a dodgy plunger link bushing or something.....

I'm guessing the EOS is not adjusted the same. With the game off, lift the playfield and check the movement of both flippers (by hand). I think the troublesome flipper has a very late EOS activation. That may explain the problem ?

worth a try.

New plunder and link fixed the problem - the old plunger was about 3-4mm shorter - unsure if this would have caused it.

Yes - The plunger would have caused the issue.
