Tommy on ebay
« on: May 16, 2011, 07:37:58 PM »
Was looking at the Tommy on ebay and noticed the Union Jack on the playfield looks different. Is this a variation or did somebody just modify it?

As far as I know the early production (or possibly prototype) models had the different union jack.

There are two things to point out.

1. there is a white sticker on that ebay pictured machine that i dont think belongs there. The union jack on the left bottom corner shows position of white sticker.
perhaps on the ebay machine it is a repair cover or ?

2. that is the later union jack used in later production run pictured on ebay (first picture below).

Here is the proto-type union jack with the different playfield graphics (second picture below) There are alot of differences between the early and later runs.
Note - if u click on the below link, it will show the below picture in much larger form and it will clearly show the big differences.
Study to see how many changes there are. Playfields are clearly totally different. The early one looks better i reckon . ?

The one you pictured from IPDB Brett is what it claimed to be prototype.

Pictured below is MY Tommy with the later production union jack.  Is different from both prototype and the one pictured on eBay.

Marty, I know what u mean. The proto-type one is alot more cartoonish. The later one alot more darker. So far, I have found 3 x totally different playfields for the TOMMY machine.

Beaky repaired one for someone recently. I liked the plane flying out from the back of the playfield. Didnt think the shutters were good for gameplay, but a good gimmick anyway. I wonder how many playfield variants there really are ? pretty cool machine i reckon.

THE BEST PINBALL COLLECTION IS A DIVERSE COLLECTION with machines like that.  ^^^

My playfield is the same as MartyJ.

The blinders are good fun to test your timing.
