Does not sound like the MPU to me, and you have confirmed that it is not the Lamp Driver.

I'd swap another Bally MPU (Goldball?) into this game to confirm. The feature lights will be different, but it will point you in the right direction.

I've never seen a feature light issue repaired by changing parts on the MPU.

It will be a connector issue.

Hi Studley

I am relatively new to pinball problem solving and not familiar to your machine or the Bally's of this era. Last year I got a Creature (1992 Bally) and the flasher lamps never worked. The problem was thought to be with the mpu but ended up being the ball popper coil that snagged on the ball plunger when the playfield was removed. The wire was still connected to the coil but the connection a bit dodgy and the wire mounting bracket of the coil broken giving the wire a little slack and very close to the coil bracket in which I think it was shorting with. It took a little while to find and then replaced the coil and solved the lighting issue.

You never know it could be a left field issue or my suggestion is left field and I should not confuse the issue.

swinks,at least i have narrowed it down to connectors or assosiated wiring.i spent hours chasing a fault on the cpu that wasn't there.i believe its called"chashing ones tail" thanks for the pointer nino.will buzz out the wiring tommorow.

Follow the lamp driver schematic and measure the 5 Volts and GND. I've seen "issues" when the lamp driver board is not screwed into the grounding / mounting bracket.

From memory - Test Point 3 is +5V. That comes in at J4 Pin 3. Check inside the connector for any corrosion, or if the pin is in fact broken.

Pin 24 on U1, U2, U3  and U4 will read +5 Volts. It is a very simple board to fault find.

all fixed, turned out to be a shorted bridge rectifier,causing the 10A fuse to blow on the power supply board.also cleaned connector pins and re-soldered them.
