MAN that is lookin good. i cant believe the condition of that playfield. My own solar ride had heaps of wear around the bumpers from the non ahesive mylar circles that these things had on them under the bumper bodies.

I was going to do a post on my own solar ride resto but i dont think il bother now.. %.% ..well maybe i will at a later date.. after i've redone the playfield :D

fussy bastard arent i??  :lol

Naah.. Post it, Mitch. We all have different methods of restoration and I'm always keen to learn from others.

Re: Gottlieb Solar Ride Restore - More Playfield

Pop Bumper parts arrived and by this time, I'd already dropped the playfield into the cabinet. It was working with the original board with the exception of a few switches. I'd spent enough time troubleshooting, so I ended up buying a Ni-Wumpf.

Heres some more playfield pictures ;

One of my favorite Pinball Pictures -

Ni-wumpf

I bought this board from PBR as I was very sure that the Spider chip on the original was faulty. It is a very good board, and the support from Ni-Wumpf was very good. I had to contact them as the board was damaged in transit. David sent me the parts and I fixed it myself.

ALL the pins are repinned. I have a habit of writing that down on the connectors.

I also replaced the power supply 5V cap and connectors / pins

Re: Gottlieb Solar Ride Restore - finished

The game was finished and the decision was already made to eBay it to fund the next project(s). It played exceptionally well, and I was sad to let it go, but it deserved to be in a collection rather in my garage or gamesroom. I had it on eBay for a day and a colector made an offer  #@# and it was gone that evening.

Here are some final pictures of the game before it left ;

This machine had one of the best playfields I had ever seen for a game of its vintage. Here's a close up of the playfield to highlight the colors of the playfield.

I have an attraction to system 1 machines. There's something about a machine that is half EM / half Solid State. The artwork was very good for the era. I have a few more in the pipeline...
