Playboy. Melbourne.
« on: November 23, 2011, 11:30:56 PM »
Hi all,
did anyone here get this last night?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330643620317&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:1123

I've always wanted to own a Playboy machine (classic, or would even be tempted to own one of the others if the price was right), but due to priorities and lack of funds, missed the recent one on ebay. Despite the playfield wear, this seemed like a good buy to me. I would have been happy with a few playfield touch ups.

Is this the going rate for a Playboy machine in this condition, or is it indicative of the current market?

Cheers!
Adam.

Sounds like a good buy, but Nino will have the best idea I imagine.

Agreed, don't see these at that price too often. I looked for one for some time for a mate, although the GFC has curbed his ambitions to own one for a while now.

Playboy is a classic and always will be ,  and this one from the pictures looked in ok condition.....i've seen a lot worse sell for a lot more.
This is just an indicator of how the market is these days , 12-15 months ago this machine would have sold for a lot more.
All machines have dropped in value and they'll continue to do so as long as the containers keep coming.

Absolutely. One of the most collectible and desirable Bally SS Games. The name sells this title, but if we look at the designs of this era, it was a great player. Bally were streets ahead with their designs and their themes. I recall the Playboy and KISS on location when I was young. These two machines were the biggest earners of their time, and most games are well and truly worn these days. Again, like KISS, over 16,000 were produced, and most parts have been reproduced (due to its popularity and collectiblity).

A project playboy would sell for $1500 - $2000. Working and complete game $2500. Reconditioned $2800+. Restored can vary from $3500 - $5000. The most I've seen a restored Playboy was a in Queensland - $5500 and it was immaculate.

It will become more collectible once Hugh Hefner passes on to the Bunny Mansion in the sky, in the same way that Evel Knievel went from a $2500 title to a $3500 title overnight.

Stern Playboy? One on ebay now for $5K. Thought that would be the going rate?

As for Playboy, a $1500 project would be very nice, but can't remember a time when I've come across one of those.

Thanks for all the replies as always!

Adam.

Not one of sterns better titles imo...pretty drab old game.
Like all 2nd hand sterns( except for le models)  5k should be your absolute top $$.

I was thinking more around the $4k mark. So many pins to choose from. I don't know what to buy...
