Insert Decals. Best method????
« on: December 08, 2011, 05:39:28 PM »
Hello,

After removing mylar from playing field and leveling round light inserts ( still low, hoping to level when clear applied ) I needed to re-apply black circles around the lenses.  I printed required circles on clear laser decal paper as per a post here somewhere and applied.

Problem is, especially on darker colours the clear part of the dacal can still be seen when clear coated.  Have I done something wrong or do I have to cut the decal right up to the black ink?  Are there sheets of decals available precut for this purpose?  Should I use vinyl cut decals?

Any help is appreciated.

Dale

You have progressed a bit further than last time I talked to you mate  ^^^

I think Nino covered it in a thread awhile ago, although I may be wrong, he could have been doing pop bumpers, anyway, he had some frisket material in the different size rings, one to cover, one to outline then used a airbrush to paint.  That would be the ideal way to do it.

If you are going to use the ones you have now, i'd cut right up to the black area or it will really stand out once cleared

If you decide to use vinyl cut give Greg (oldpins) a PM he will definately be able to help you out.  Vinyl cut is very thin and should ok with clear over them, but they could be very fiddly to apply.

I found this on the net in which I learnt something so may be handy for others.

But maybe those skilled in this area could make comment for or against.

For the insert rings.. you are best off using a stencil and airbrushing/ painting these in
