AUSSIE PINBALL ON WIKIPEDIA ? WHAT DO U THINK ?
« on: December 09, 2011, 12:31:58 AM »
What do the MODS and the forum members think of having/introducing "Aussie Pinball Arcade Forum" on WIKIPEDIA ?   $#$

I am a big fan of Wikipedia because you can look up so much great information. (Just remember to type in www.wikipedia.org) because adding .com or .com.au after wikipedia never works, but that aside, its a great site.

After I added info about my star trek voyager machine, the search results etc were great.

I was thinking Nick and Nino (the MODS) could do up a page and add it to wikipedia.  It needs the date the forum started, info like who runs it, what platform you guys use (for computer interested techno peoples) and basic info like avarage posts per day, members etc etc, and a picture of say the MODS (founders etc) and perhaps a photo of the AP banner etc. Even add some photos of pinball machines.

I reckon adding the forum to the wikipedia could be a great thing to have Aussie Pinball recognised even more. (shouldnt everything great have its own wikipedia page !)

What do u guys think ?  > any suggestions from members etc. Any ideas/photos for the Wiki page ?   !@#

Interesting idea, however, it may be difficult to meet the notability criteria. Not sure how strictly this is policed, but it could be a show-stopper.

Put it this way, there will be alot of hits on the page. From all over the world, cause when u add the search words for pinball, forum etc, you know which link will come up the most, OUR website.  $#$

Any and everything else is on there, so why not Aussie Pinball.  My aim is to get Nino and Nicks Photo's up in lights. Why the hell not, Creech should be on there as well.
If there is a wiki page for say facebook with that blokes face (the founder) why not AP.  Could be a friggin show stopper page like u said AJ.  *%*

I think having AP in wiki would be good from the perspective of being found / discovered by the newbie or needing help to fix, as I would have discovered them earlier in the piece before I made a few purchasing mistakes.

But not really my place to say, for nick, nino and creech at having there full names and photos detailed as they strike me as guys wanting to keep those details a little private as they do not even have those details easily shown here as far as I know.

That aside I think if it were to detail in brief what AP provides for the pinball community it could be a good way to build up members after info on restorations, technical help, story sharing etc. I prefer AP over all the other sites because of the quality and it would be ashame for it to turn into a site loosing the quality that it is known to us.

Maybe in link, and an idea for the AP site would be an improved index for the restoration section having EM, SS, and DMD section and then the game titles with the different threads started by members here under a game title as it is added. This would make finding a particular game resto title a lot easier and a better way to stand out on wiki. This could also be adapted to AP and wiki with a DYI mods section.

Overall it could be a good idea and give us the chance to gain new members from around the world that can offer and share their skills. Comes down to how the nick, and nino want to promote the site but also the effort - as to maintain both takes effort away from this quality site. But this s only my thoughts.

Great idea and Good topic for discussion.

Ok, heres something funny, or weird, depending on ya sense of humour.

I logged onto WIKIPEDIA and typed in alot of different things just for the fun of it. Then, i typed in Strangeways .Here is what I got  @.@

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strangeways

I always thought you had a English accent Nino. lol  (weird huh !)  *.*
and then I searched under Pinnies4me , and guess what came up ?   !@#  Nothing, dam it, but I was hoping something funny/interesting would turn up as well.
(next month, I am hoping the same search's will reveal the following  #@# )

http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?topic=7603.0

^^^ search under your own names/avatars or nicknames and see if something unusual appears. www.wikipedia.org

heres another example etc, u get the idea of the search results on WIKI.

COW CORNER
a term used in cricket.
the area of the field (roughly) between deep mid-wicket and wide long-on. So called because few 'legitimate' shots are aimed to this part of the field, so fielders are rarely placed there – leading to the concept that cows could happily graze in that area.[1]  %.%
