Bally MPU
« on: January 02, 2012, 05:03:25 PM »
For sale is a Bally AS-2518-17 MPU.  This MPU was working fine in my Power Play game for about a year, and just recently stopped working.  Upon power on, the MPU gives its initial flicker, but is not successful with the first flash.  According to Clay’s guide, this means one (or more) of the game program ROMs U1 to U6 (or bad ROM socket).  I suspect it is a bad ROM chip.

As mentioned above, the game and this MPU have been working fine for a long period, and then stopped working.  As I had a spare Ultimate MPU, I have used this MPU in my game, and this older MPU is for sale.

For anyone who is handy with fixing these, it should be fixable (as mentioned, it may be as simple as changing out the ROMs).  Also, I have accidentally broken one of the pins on chip U9 when I was re-seating this chip when trying to fix the MPU.  So, this chip will need to be replaced.  Ken (skybeaux) I believe has these, and so should GPE.  They sell for about $7.  I have tested chips U10 and U11 in another Bally game I have, and these work fine.

The board is in great shape for its age (see images), and has minimal (or next to no) visible corrosion.  I can send more detailed images if needed.

$75 or best offer, plus postage.  Please PM me if interested.  SOLD
