Playfeild Ground Braid
« on: April 05, 2012, 08:06:11 PM »
I was replacing two bad bayonet lamps under my FG playfield and the ground braid snapped while I was pulling it away where it screws into the PF.
Found the braid was pretty brittle, this is soldered over the screw and runs in a daisy chain under the PF.

After I replaced the bayonet I had to pull a staple out so I could get enough braid to overlap so I could solder the two strands together.
The new bayonet lamp is working nicely and my handy work repairing the braid worked a treat.
Also wanted it to look tidy under the PF to.

Does Jaycar elec sell this ground braid ?

at a pinch you could strip off the shielding from microphone cable - make sure it is high quality stuff so that the outside shielding is actually braided copper as a lot of the cheap stuff is just lose wires twirled around to made a half-arsed shield, this is useless for pinball braid and it's also next to useless for microphone cable. %.%

This is the only place I have found that has it -

http://www.pinbits.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=44

Bought from there a few times with no issues.

I've got all mine from here:

http://www.pinrestore.com/Supplies.html

The shipping calculates heaps, but they do refund it almost immediately.

The staple gun is probably the best investment in pinball tools I've made (apart from my multimeter!)

Bought there too Marty, and the same - got a refund of the postage difference each time, forgot they had braid there too.

Ive tried to get this so many times.. need some for a valve amp that requires good grounding to stop any ringing... all i can find has aluminium braid which is absolutely friggin useless as you cant solder!

I found it at a high end hi-fi shop by the meter.

I will chuck a roll in my next container from PRC as I have already sourced it but a roll is WAY too heavy to post internationally.

Hi, i haven't seen how big/small your braid is, but you may be able to use De-soldering braid, basically used to mop up solder from PC boards, take a look at Jaycar, CAT. NO. NS3020, http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=NS3020&keywords=desolder+braid&form=KEYWORD. If you only need a small amount it may work.
