Stern USA Trip - Virgin Airline costs FYI
« on: December 14, 2012, 06:30:46 PM »
I am going to visit the Stern Factory next year, and the trip will coincide with one of Sterns new releases after Avengers. (Probably John Borgs new title which is next in line I am told or may be just pipped at the post by Steve Ritchies next title)

I went and asked my local Travel Agent for the airticket costs to travel via a modern-new airline with brand new aircraft like Virgin, and was pleasantly surprised to find out -

ECONOMY
Depature Brisbane - land LAX USA, then fly to Chicago O'Hare Airport which is closest to Sterns Factory...
Return - leave Chicago for LA, then LA back to Brisbane.

Total cost return flights, with food n drinks incl on all international and domestic USA flights > less than $1500 return, and that was without even trying to secure any "special" pricing....but from what I am told, its getting close to the lowest general return pricing for such a trip........
Note - If you want to fly PREMIUM (half way between Economy and Business, to get bigger seats n more room between seats, better food n drinks n more leg room and more seat rake backwards, its apx an extra $800 total incl all flights)........the only other trick I have used on previous Economy flights to the USA is to book emergency exit seats which means you get great leg room, and only a maximum of 3 seats side by side, which makes getting out of your isle for restroom breaks much easier plus the no one sitting right in front of you bonus.

Anyway, anyone considering a trip next year to the USA, its not as expensive as u may have thought.....maybe its something other AP members might also be interested in doing yourself oneday, if u are a Stern buyer/collector.

indeed.... indeed....

have already arranged a few things for when i decide to go...i have to time it that a new title is just hitting the production line, or even if 2 new titles will be hiting the production line...my Stern contact will let me know in due course when its best to come over...they understand I will be travelling all the way just to meet n say hello to Steve Ritchie, John Borg and George Gomez, Gary Stern etc, plus some of the other very important people who make the place work so well....i just have to give them a few weeks notice to arrange a specific date to get the best out of the factory visit.

I couldn't fault Virgin last year. Nice new planes and excellent service. My girlfriend and I got a round the world ticket for $2950 each. It flew us from Sydney to Los Angeles, New York to London, London to Hong Kong and Hong Kong to Sydney.

Off to New York next year and this info will be handy!

Cheers!

Too true - it aint THAT expensive.

I know someone who JUST LAST WEEK booked a Qantas return to LAX in April for $1299.00   %$%  #@#  %$%
And with the dollar the way it is at the moment its a fairly affordable trip - you can LOCK the rate in if you buy your $$ on a money card now as well, rather than using your credit card and copping 'whatever' the rate is at the time of travel. I know someone who JUST LAST WEEK bought a heap of US $$ on a prepaid money card and some US cash  %$% #@# %$%

Consider that apart from food ( which is about the same $ but you get more and its somehow more filling )  ,  a lot of items in the USA are half the price they are here - then its a worthwhile time to check out a trip in detail.

Cavey - you MAY find that these days the airlines 'charge extra' for the emergency seating places if you want to secure them.
Best way to get em is to 'know someone"  #@#

Enjoy the planning mate.

Hey Adam - when will you be in New York?

Aussie Pinball wouldnt be the same without its famous (or infamous) Wotto's pinball travels to the USA trips....The last one u did was a pearler....Apparently, the trip from LA to Chicago was a 4 hour flight...that $1500 I was quoted included that, which only adds an extra $200 (or $100 from LA to Chicago) the way they do the fares from over here...bargain !   I always think I am going to have a smash in one of their hire cars cause I get the wrong lane or side of the road type deal...maybe it will be taxis or shuttles, or just the occassional Limo for me...Make sure Wotto if u go again, lots of cool photos like last time...... ^^^

Wotto, we're looking at an August U.S trip, but my girlfriend suggested Christmas in New York and more time to save. I said that sounds romantic and all, but it will be cold and I think the weather would be limiting in what we can see and do....plus, I don't like the idea of planes landing in the snow. Haha

Yes, the first Wotto trip set the benchmark of American holiday fun with a dash of pinball!

Cheers!
Adam.
