Judge Dredd & Demo Man on bay
« on: January 10, 2013, 08:25:27 PM »
Anyone buy these when they auctioned with a 99 cent start in the last week or two?  I think the JD sold for 1700 and the DM bought 1300 ish.  Just noticed they had been re-listed.  The seller is imtznu_123.  I assume the buyers wern't happy with their purchases and decided not to take them, hence the reason for re-listing.

Or the seller pulled them because they didn't get a high enough bid

I look at some of those low start price auctions and look at the bids and I'm sure there is shill bidding going on by the sellers until they are up to a regular price.

Sometimes the shill bidder ends up with the final bid so you see the machine end up getting relisted. Not saying that's the case with those pins but it happens.

I would be amazed if they weren't shilled.  Just sh*ts me.  I dont get the logic of relisting at 2300 start when you couldn't get a real bid of 1400 the week before.  If you have a reserve, start them at that in the first place.  Not the first, nor will it be the last time.  Rant over.

Exactly if you don't want to sell it for less than a certain price just start it at that. Maybe they think people will see all the (shill) bids and think wow this pin is really in demand, I better keep bidding it must be something good or rare.

It's like the pinball auctions that I used to go to, so many pins would be passed in because they didn't meet some pathetically high reserve. Just start the bidding at the reserve then. Will probably be a very short auction when nobody bids though.  It's like they want the best of both worlds, a guaranteed fixed price as a minimum plus any upside an auction can bring if two numptys start fighting it out over the same pin. But they don't want the downside an auction can bring when the market doesn't meet their expectations for the price.  It's false advertising to me.

That's my thoughts. I almost went for the Demo Man. I think I have kept both in my "Watched List".. Maybe this needs to be brought to the attention of eBay ? I don't use eBay that much these days (for pin stuff) as most auctions are rigged with "friendly bids". Usual suspects, and most smarter buyers work it out..

I couldn't find an appropriate way to let ebay know or I would have.

I'd definitely say shilling without a doubt, I see it all the time regardless of what the item is... Definitely see it with Apple products all the time on Ebay.

I see he has re listed JD and DM at a starting bid of $2300 this time with a buy it now @ $3000 so that is a no brainer especially at a 4 feedback!  &^&

Ebay don't care either, shilling just means more money for them.

Even now when you look at the bid history for someone and it shows the number of items bid on, what percentage is with that seller, bid retractions etc it only gives you the last 30 days now.  Previously it gave you longer than that.  A cynic would say they are making it easier to hid shill bidding by showing only a very small snapshot of the bidders activity.
