Luna Park in Melbourne have some of the best looked after sited pins I've seen in years. Monster Bash, Revenge from Mars and Family Guy. All look great and a pleasure to play.

You are right Adam, I played a really neat Addams there a year ago, was surprised to see a sited pin that was that neat and played well.

For me i don't get out and about to play sited pins.

Were i work i am called the pinball wizard .... I am definitely not one ..........................

I ask all the personal that work for us do they play pinball at the pub ect.

If they do the most complaint is that pin was not work properly and they feel ripped off.

It is not 20 cents back in owe day.

I encourage them to buy a pin for a man cave .

So the question was is pinball making a come back?
I say - DID IT EVER REALLY GO AWAY?
It is funny to see that though that people are noticing, using the nostalgia trip more and more by using them in media campaigns, movies and the like.
Making it appear more mainstream and common place.

For now In my own little world, it never went away  &&
If it isn't broke, it isn't pinball.

The internet is responsible for the comeback of pinball.

I guess the internet is responsible for marketing alot of things these days by default of people just being able to hear about certain products, services or situations.

But, we still dont have decent marketing of pinball machines in Australia by mainstream retail outlets. Bunnings, Harvey Norman, anything like that, even as a trial should be putting real machines (not pictures only) in the front of customers who can play, hear and see these magnificent pinball machines in action. I have never heard or seen someone walk away from playing a pinball machine without a huge smile on their face, saying cool, that was fun, I want one.

We also need better n more flexible finance options from banks n other finance brokers for our products. Jet Ski, motorbike and home theatre system luxury markets all have it, why hasnt the pinball industry got this in a big way...cause no one has pushed the envelope yet...We need more marketing and smarter marketing of the pinball industry. All it takes is one great simple piece of marketing that can be copied n cloned, and away new in box sales will go. Places like Bunnings n Harvey Norman should be on the list of normal places to see a pinball machine set up, or at least places like JB Hi Fi, EB games etc. All it takes is one successful place, and away the acceptance will go. Long Live Pinball.  ^^^

Pinball has made a mini comeback in Australia because of the importers' willingness to supply product that was basically dead in this country. The target market has been the older crowd who have paid off their mortgages etc and has disposable income to spend.  The hobby has always been there, and people like Steve Young and Clay's Guides made sure it was easy to learn and maintain home machines.

There has never been marketing in Pinball. The only marketing was from Pinball Companies to operators. The machines on location WERE the only form of marketing. Remember, pinball was produced as a method of maintaining an income. There may have been mini ads on TV in the 90's, bet nothing before.

The difference between Pinball and other hobby / luxury items is the simple fact they are made to make money. A car, Jet Ski, Hi Fi System etc etc is not going to make anyone any money. Pinball is an "odd" hobby that levers off the glory days when pinball was king. It is easily the most expensive hobby.

The internet has certainly helped, and the free advice on forums etc has opened up the hobby to many new people.

Definitely making a strong comeback according to this article which mentions a digital backlash led by baby boomers wanting the simplicity and physics of the steel ball.

A mention of strong sales growth as well as tournament membership is encouraging.
