Line Filter

I have a black pyramid pinball in which the line filter has died, I have been told by a pinball tech that I should just bypass it as the line filter was only a  requirement for the US and is not needed in Australia. Is this true or should I replace the line filter ?

Jaycar have a suitable replacement. I would replace it for several reasons.

My Incredible Hulk kept tripping the switch at the fuse box when I turned it on a while ago. I was told to replace the line filter. A trip to Jaycar, a small amount of money, an easy solder job and Hulk was back to working order. Definitely a painless fix.
