Agree somewhat. A lot of people say these things were designed to be on 24/7, well I used to run 8kms a day and every second day do weights. Mate I'm lucky to do 4kms every other day and recently I haven't exercised for 8 weeks. So my point is things age and what they were capable once upon a time is not relevant now.

So unless the game is restored fully to new I'd be a little hesitant in thinking you can leave them on and not expect things to be under stress  !@#

Good point.  I generally turn 'em off after a game by the way. Unless I just feel like admiring the light show that is.

+1 to the lightshow.

It's a special part of the pinball experince.

My 6yo daughter will often go around and turn on all the machines, then turn off the main lights and enjoy the show. #*#

I'll only leave them on if I am there, otherwise off they go *%*

I'm too scared that the 'magic smoke' will try and escape if I leave them on and I'm not there %.%

Should have mentioned this earlier. If I have replaced most or all of the globes with leds, I'd feel a whole lot more comfortable with leaving them on.

Its 6 cents per hour per machine, based on me testing apx 20 different dmd machines wil std bulbs in them, using 2012 testing equipment from Origin Energy, and using Origins rates $.

They chew nothing, cheap as chips to run  ^^^

if u are worried about std bulbs ruining the backglass etc, yes, good idea, but for translites, it doesnt matter.

I have left Segas, Ballys, Williams, Gottliebs, Sterns, all different machines n manufacturers on for 3 and 4 days, non stop, just to flush out any issues, and nothing ever played up once.

If the machine is hack free, I think it is probably safe to say only a bit of bad luck will show any hassles up.

LEDs do reduce heat, which is a good thing for sure.  ^^^

Not entirely true, every translite that i have seen with damage (prob 10-20% of machines i have seen) - ie: flaking and the trasnlite starting to lose the solid white backing ALWAYS starts directly in front of a bulb.  So while damage to a translite does not happen to every machine, when it does, it is almost always related to heat generated from incandescent globes.
